Dubai Seenu in Hyderabad

Starring: Ravi Teja,Nayanatara
Director: Seenu Vytla
Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Dubai Seenu is the latest movie that hit the theaters last week. If not for Ravi Teja, no other hero could have pulled this plot off. Hero Ravi Teja’s dialogue delivery and casual acting style are the two things which keep the audiences tied throughout the film.

As we can expect from the title, this is a story of a group of friends who dream to go to Dubai and earn big. Their dreams are shattered when a guy ?(venu Madhav) cheats the gang and leaves them clueless in Mumbai. Patnaik (Krishna Bhagavan) comes to their rescue and inspires the guys to set up business. So, why Patnaik gives them money and what he makes these guys do is a track that audience can enjoy.

Mean while Madhu (Nayana Tara) is a RJ in Radio Mirchi, a FM Radio Station. Why Madhu comes to Mumbai? Why Seenu helps Madhu? And what's the relation between the heroine, hero and the bad man is a story that goes through few serious twists.

One thing that is steady and entertaining in the movie is the comedy tracks which come one after another. Some scenes will remind us of Anandam and Venkey, but the director tried his very best to show them differently. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam's role as Radio Station head and MS Narayana as Film Star "Salman Raju" were good.

When it comes to the songs, they were not much appealing. But one or two are worth an ear. One thing that the director tried different in this movie is to include the characters of the story in few of the songs. Small stint by Sunil in the title song is awesome.

Sushant Singh as bad Guy did an exceptional work. After the interval couple of twists will twist you but the comedy track jumping back now and then will relieve us from the stress of the twists. Not to mention we get to see some other actors from the industry in some roles, I mean in between the twists. It's better you see them on screen itself.

Casual dialogues, much more ease of delivery of dialogues by Ravi Teja and comedy tracks right from the start till the end are major plus for the movie.

Overall I can say I feel this is an above average movie and if you want to have some fun and laugh heartily, give it a shot.

News Channels or Crappy Channels!!

I rarely get time watch TV during the weekdays, I will be at work and during the weekends I will not be at home. But somehow last week I got to sit in front of this idiot box accidentally at my friends place. One my friends eye(who is a diet enthusiast) caught something on a popular Telugu News Channel.

There was information scrolling at the bottom of the screen saying that "Know how a popular Hindi singer lost 100 Kgs and a popular Telugu actor lost 30 kgs". At the time we saw the information, there was 2 more hours left for the program to be aired.

So my friend was doing his work for 2 hours and when it was time for the program, he got glued to the box. Me being there physically, couldn't help - I was also glued (The truth is, I though I might well get some tips to reduce weight :-)).

Finally the program starts, Just check out the sequence of events that happen on the show, below:

  • As every other program in the world starts, the program also started off with a jingle playing in the background while videos and pictures of Obese people were shown.

  • An anchor comes, talks about Obesity and asks us to stay glued to know how a popular Hindi singer lost 100 Kgs and a popular Telugu actor lost 30 kgs.

  • Again pictures and videos of Obese people are shown with the Jingle playing in the background.

  • Time For Advertisements

  • Again pictures and videos of Obese people are shown with the Jingle playing in the background(Please note that everytime its the same Jingle, before /after videos & pictures).

  • Anchor comes again and tells the name of the singer who lost 100 kgs in 1 year. ...BHAM..random clippings from the singers music videos are shown for 7 minutes or so.

  • Again the anchor comes and tells the name of the telugu actor who lost 30 Kgs in 2 monhs...Bham Bham BHAM....for 10 minutes clippings of this actors movies and songs are shown.

  • Not so fast..time for Advertisements

  • Again pictures and videos of Obese people are shown with the Jingle playing in the background.

  • Anchor comes again...and says do you what to see how they look after shedding their weight?.I guess you might have caught up with this...Bham Bham....shows the videos/clipping of these both guys after losing weight.

  • Yet again the anchor comes and says "Do you want to know how they have reduced their weight so drastically?"

  • Guys come on, not so soon. Advertisements time.

  • Yet again and again pictures and videos of Obese people are shown with the Jingle playing in the background.I am reminding you again, every time its the same Jingle, before/after videos & pictures.

  • Now the anchor comes says a word Liposuction and videos of the procedure (I guess mostly downloaded from net) are shown. A local doctor talks about the procedure , not much informative.

  • They talk about another procedure in which they stitch the stomach to make it small so that people will eat less and thus lose weight. Some pictures related to this procedure this time and again a local doctor talks about it. As you guessed, not informative!!

  • Again some crappy before/after videos and pictures.

  • The program ends and again for the gods sake the Jingle comes back for the N'th time.

So, if you want you can read the sequence of events once again, go ahead. These are only the things they showed in that programme. I am sure that I have missed the jingle in the sequence here and there. I bet it came up more times than I have mentioned.

Aren't these news channels getting any quality news? Do they have nothing of quality to telecast? Why can't they telecast something which is useful for common man? Why do they keep telecasting the same news 100 times a day?!!(literally). And, why these news channels dramatize and reshoot the crime sequences and telecast? Are they some kind of training classes for would be criminals. Don't we have better things to watch?

I am sick of these news channels!!!!!!!

June 6, 1944(D- Day) - The Battle of Normandy

The build-up of Omaha Beach: reinforcements of men and equipment moving inland.

The Battle of Normandy was fought in 1944 between Nazi Germany in Western Europe and the invading Allied forces as part of the larger conflict of World War II.

You can correlate better if I talk about the 1998 Academy-Award-winning film Saving Private Ryan directed by Steven Spielberg. The opening 25 minutes of the film depicts the Omaha beachhead assault of June 6, 1944. Now you can imagine how the D-day would have been!!
(P.S: By any chance if you have not seen Saving Private Ryan, get a DVD today and watch it without delay. 'cause you have missed a gem of a movie and a piece in world history)

Operation Overlord was the codename for the Allied invasion of northwest Europe, which began on June 6, 1944, and ended on August 19, 1944, when the Allies crossed the River Seine. Over sixty years later, the Normandy invasion still remains the largest sea borne invasion in history, involving almost three million troops crossing the English Channel from England to Normandy.
Its mission, to gain a foothold on the continent, started on June 6, 1944 (most commonly known by the name D-Day) and ended on June 30, 1944.

The primary Allied formations that saw combat in Normandy came from the United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada. Substantial Free French and Polish forces also participated in the battle after the assault phase, and there were also contingents from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, the Netherlands, and Norway.

The Normandy invasion began with overnight parachute and glider landings, massive air attacks, naval bombardments, and an early morning amphibious phase began on June 6. The “D-Day” forces deployed from bases along the south coast of England, the most important of these being Portsmouth. The battle for Normandy continued for more than two months, with campaigns to establish, expand, and eventually break out of the Allied beachheads, and concluded with the liberation of Paris and the fall of the Falaise pocket in late August 1944.

The Normandy landings were the first successful opposed landings across the English Channel for nine centuries. They were costly in terms of men, but the defeat inflicted on the Germans was one of the largest of the war. Strategically, the campaign led to the loss of the German position in most of France and the secure establishment of a major new front.

Till date Battle of Normandy was depicted in many movies such as The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan, D-Day, the Sixth of June and also in the famous TV show Band of Brothers. Even today the Omaha Beach invasion is dramatised in Computer Games such as Call of Duty, Company of Heroes and Commandos 3: Destination Berlin.

Determination - The story of Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

In 1883, a creative engineer named John Roebling was inspired by an idea to build a spectacular bridge connecting New York with the Long Island. However bridge building experts throughout the world thought that this was an impossible feat and told Roebling to forget the idea. It just could not be done. It was not practical. It had never been done before.

Roebling could not ignore the vision he had in his mind of this bridge. He thought about it all the time and he knew deep in his heart that it could be done. He just had to share the dream with someone else. After much discussion and persuasion he managed to convince his son Washington, an up and coming engineer, that the bridge in fact could be built.

Working together for the first time, the father and son developed concepts of how it could be accomplished and how the obstacles could be overcome. With great excitement and inspiration, and the headiness of a wild challenge before them, they hired their crew and began to build their dream bridge.

The project started well, but when it was only a few months underway a tragic accident on the site took the life of John Roebling. Washington was injured and left with a certain amount of brain damage, which resulted in him not being able to walk or talk or even move.

"We told them so."

"Crazy men and their crazy dreams."

"It`s foolish to chase wild visions."

Everyone had a negative comment to make and felt that the project should be scrapped since the Roeblings were the only ones who knew how the bridge could be built. In spite of his handicap Washington was never discouraged and still had a burning desire to complete the bridge and his mind was still as sharp as ever.

He tried to inspire and pass on his enthusiasm to some of his friends, but they were too daunted by the task. As he lay on his bed in his hospital room, with the sunlight streaming through the windows, a gentle breeze blew the flimsy white curtains apart and he was able to see the sky and the tops of the trees outside for just a moment.

It seemed that there was a message for him not to give up. Suddenly an idea hit him. All he could do was move one finger and he decided to make the best use of it. By moving this, he slowly developed a code of communication with his wife.

He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating to her that he wanted her to call the engineers again. Then he used the same method of tapping her arm to tell the engineers what to do. It seemed foolish but the project was under way again.

For 13 years Washington tapped out his instructions with his finger on his wife's arm, until the bridge was finally completed. Today the spectacular Brooklyn Bridge stands in all its glory as a tribute to the triumph of one man's indomitable spirit and his determination not to be defeated by circumstances. It is also a tribute to the engineers and their team work, and to their faith in a man who was considered mad by half the world. It stands too as a tangible monument to the love and devotion of his wife who for 13 long years patiently decoded the messages of her husband and told the engineers what to do.

Perhaps this is one of the best examples of a never-say-die attitude that overcomes a terrible physical handicap and achieves an impossible goal.

Often when we face obstacles in our day-to-day life, our hurdles seem very small in comparison to what many others have to face. The Brooklyn Bridge shows us that dreams that seem impossible can be realised with determination and persistence, no matter what the odds are.

Even the most distant dream can be realized with determination and persistence.

Rain God's are back!!

I clicked these photographs from my home yesterday night i.e, Sunday June 3'rd 2007

After being burned by the blistering Sun all these days, I have been waiting for monsoons from long time. For me and all those who had enough of the Sun, and wanted some cool zephyr pass by the pores on their skin, this weekend was a bit of relief.

In spite of the Sun showing his strength in the mornings, the evenings were comparatively cooler with lots of wind and showers here and there.

Are the Rain God's back with a bang? I guess so!! Yesterday night was a fiesta of lights and sounds in the sky. I could not resist taking my "Third Eye"(My Camera) and my newly acquired tripod to chase these lights in the sky.

Among many clicks I got, only in two shots I got to get the lightning. I was thrilled to see the outcome and my sprit to chase the lightning increased. So these clicks were the best thing happened to me over this weekend and I wish to click more of these in the coming season.

Traffic ..Traffic...........Traffic!!!

Evening traffic @ Begumpet. Clicked by my friend Sudhakar from a flyover in construction

Traffic ..Traffic...........TRAFFIC!!! to hell with Traffic.......

This was my condition by the time I reached work today from home. The distance from my home to work is 17 Kms and it took me solid one and a half hour.

Pollution of thousands of vehicles directly hitting my face, scorching sun from the top and idiots who cant stop themselves from honking even when stuck in a traffic jam- irritating!! With all this my head got heavy and some unknown feeling which most people call "Headache" crawled up into my head.

Usually Hyderabad is terrific traffic city and couple of flyover constructions going on at major centers blew it up. Contributing their part to the traffic is the M.C H(Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad). They will water the plants on the road dividers only at peak traffic timings and there is no good time for them collect trash other than the peak timings.

The water tanker which is stopped on the road to water the plans looks like a dam which is stopping the flow of vehicles. Did I mention that these Trash Trucks stink big time? Imagine to all the irritations that I have mentioned in the second paragraph, this stink is added? I think its the ultimate torture a human being can experience at the start of the day.

The two feel good factors that I have while stuck in traffic is the music playing through my Bluetooth headset and the beauties on the road. Stooooop...when I mean beauties, I mean the Mercedes, Hondas, BMW's and so on. Come on guys I am a happy married man!! Does this sound like an oxymoron, I mean Marriage + Happy or it infact is? I don't know! but what I know is I am getting off the topic I started with...so coming back.

I am not sure how far these construction of flyovers will help reduce the traffic problems but I keep my fingers crossed and and wait. Ha ha ha ...WAIT.... I guess that is what I am doing in traffic now!!....WAIT.
